Chinese Steamed Glutinous Rice | Loh Mai Kai | 糯米鸡 [Nyonya Cooking]

In many Chinese food eateries especially if Dim Sum (Chinese tapas) is offered, Loh Mai Kai or Chinese Steamed Glutinous Rice is commonly found. If you have been to one in Malaysia, they usually have these little bowls of rice steamed in disposable aluminium bowls. Normally, it would also be placed in this huge steaming cabinet where fluffy Chinese buns with various fillings are arranged. I just love indulging in all those steamy dishes!!

In this recipe, I have already portioned it for 4 servings. You can also easily freeze it for another time. How convenient!! If you would like to enjoy this without alcohol, you may just skip the ingredient and for vegetarians, this dish would be still tasty without meat. Do soak dried mushroom and glutinous rice in preparation for this dish. The mushrooms have to be really soft or it would not be yummy.
